Jody Wheeler Developed A Greater Than Average Interest In Children's Books At An Early Age, Having Been Influenced And Encourage By Her Great Aunt Opal Wheeler, A Prolific Writer Of Books For Young Readers In The 1950's. After Being Trained As A Fine Artist And Art Educator, Ms. Wheeler Moved To Manhattan In 1977 And Eventually Turned To The Field Of Publishing. She Worked As A Design Assistant At The Dial Press In The Juvenile Books Division For Two Years Before Establishing Her Own Freelance Illustration Business. Since Then She Has Enjoyed Working On A Variety Of Projects Ranging From Pictu

Ezra Jack Keats (1916-1983) Grew Up In Brooklyn And Spent Most Of His Life In New York City. Given In His Honor Since 1986, The Ezra Jack Keats New Writer And Illustrator Awards Recognize The Most Promising Newcomers Whose Books Reflect The Tradition Of Ezra Jack Keats.
